Jewelry Names

Several people have asked me who the jewelry is named for. Most of it is named for beautiful, awesome women in my family and circle of friends. In case you want to know, I've compiled a list of the names so far. And some have asked me why there is not yet a "Sandra" (my mother) or a "Mary Sue" (my grandmother) and all I can tell you is that those are two women who are so special to me that I am having a very hard time creating something that is just right. It's a process and after the piece is made, I kind of think about my family and friends and think of who it reminds me of.

Cooper - My second mom, Diane, is my mother's best friend and someone who has always loved and supported me. She is so elegant, lovely and refined, and yet has a wit about her that is definitely more Scarlett than Melanie! Because her name is Diane, and I have another Diane, this jewelry, I named "Cooper" which was her maiden name.

Diane - My dear friend who has been a great support to both me & my husband. Her beauty is truly inside and out, and she takes great care of everyone around her.

Doris - My beautiful great aunt. She passed away several years ago, but I always remember her sense of style and how much I loved her earrings and jewelry as a child. She seemed to always be laughing.

Grace - My grandmother, named Grace, passed away in February 2009. She was such a "romantic" and loved to love. I look like her, and I hope every day that I act like her, too. She was always very feminine and loved the color pink. The earrings that I created in her name, looked to me like an abstract, and something about it reminded me of God's grace, which led me to name them after her.

Elizabeth - My oldest niece, who I have never seen without a smile (and those awesome dimples). Beautiful, sweet and athletic.

Julia - My daughter, and one of the lights of my life. She is everything beautiful, funny, warm and silly rolled into one. No piece of jewelry can totally capture her, and in reality, there is probably a little bit of her in all that I do. Julia was named for her paternal grandmother, who passed away in 2000, two years to the day that my daughter was born.

Hannah - My friend Diane's daughter, and a bright, lovely young woman who I admire for being an individual in everything she does.

Kathleen - My husband's maternal grandmother. I never knew her but my daughter looks so much like her. The ocean jasper pendant I named after her, was such a beautiful, rich green that it reminded me of Ireland, and Kathleen just fit.

Katie - My husband's stepmother, and grandmother to my children. When I think of Katie I think of class, grace, beauty and love. She's been a wonderful part of our family.

Maggie - My beautiful sunkissed niece who loves animals and the outdoors and unfortunately now likes boys!

Myra - My very young aunt who was almost more like a sister. She is so beautiful inside and out, and I love her sense of humor. She has a very quiet grace about her, and she has been one of my biggest role models in life.

Nadell - My great aunt who passed away in 2008. She was always so sweet and underneath it all, very strong--and beautiful, like all of her sisters.

Natalie - My Aunt Myra's youngest daughter who faces life with such wit and fervor. She has an awesome attitude, and great beauty.

Sophronia - My father's paternal grandmother was named Sophronia Ellington Tweed. I never knew her, but know that she was a strong, determined woman. Sophronia is also the name of a great aunt of mine on my mother's side of the family-but our family called her Phronie. She was deaf and I loved to watch her sign.

Thedral - My great aunt who has always been such a big part of our lives. She never had children, but all of her nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews were her kids and will be her legacy. She is beautiful and she always has a sparkle in her eye. She grew up in Georgia, and was one of many aunts with interesting names!
